The Story of Backlash

WWE Backlash is an annual WWE event, which started in 1999. As of 2004, Backlash became a RAW exclusive pay-per-view event. Backlash will often feature a rematch from WrestleMania, or a match based on events that took place at WrestleMania. Triple H is the only wrestler to have competed at every Backlash event. He has a win-loss record of 3-5 to date.

2001 - In a match for WWF, I-C, & Tag Team Titles: WWF Champ Steve Austin & I-C champ Triple H won the Tag Team Titles from Kane & The Undertaker

2002 I-C Title: Eddie Guerrero beat Rob Van Dam
2002 WWF Title: Hulk Hogan pinned Triple H
2003 Womens Title: Jazz beat champ Trish Stratus

The theme song for the event was Baby Hates Me by Danko Jones.

- Goldust def. Rob Conway (3:22) on WWE Heat
o Goldust pinned Rob Conway following a running Powerslam.

- Carlito def. Chris Masters via pinfall (9:55)
o Carlito hit the Back Cracker and got the pin with his feet on the ropes.

- Umaga def. Ric Flair via pinfall (3:30)
- Trish Stratus def. Mickie James via disqualification (4:10).
o Mickie James retains the WWE Womens Championship.
o Trish Stratus dislocated her right shoulder in the match.

- Rob Van Dam def. Shelton Benjamin via pinfall to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and retain his Money in the Bank contract.(18:40)
o Rob Van Dam pinned Shelton Benjamin after a Five-Star Frog Splash following a Van Daminator with a briefcase.

- Big Show vs. Kane went to a no contest (8:17)
o The lights went red and May 19th came over the loudspeaker. Big Show hit Kane with a chair to put Kane out of his misery.

- Mr. McMahon & Shane McMahon def. Shawn Michaels & God via pinfall on Shawn Michaels in a No Holds Barred match, with the help of the Spirit Squad. (19:50)
o Mr McMahon pinned Shawn Micheals after the Spirit Squad put Shawn through a table

- WWE Championship: John Cena (c) def. Triple H and Edge to retain the WWE Championship. (17:35)
o Cena won by reversing the Pedigree into a jack-knife pin and pinned for the 1.2.3
o After the match, Triple H attacked John Cena, Edge and the referee with a sledgehammer and did the DX crotch chop several times.

The 2007 edition of WWE Backlash is set to take place on April 29, 2007 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
